About Alexandra Dutton
Alexandra Dutton has worked in early childhood centers for 20 years, with children between the ages of 5 mos–5 years old. Since 2009, she has been the Program Director at Old Firehouse School in Lafayette, and teaches early childhood classes at Diablo Valley College. Alexandra has a BA in Developmental Psychology from UC Berkeley and an MA in Early Childhood Education from San Francisco State University. Her passion for education extends to her desire to help teachers grow, and she has developed and presented in-service classes to teachers on self-regulation, discipline, math, literacy, emergent curriculum, brain development, and attachment theory.
She has presented at conferences such as CAEYC and NAEYC and other regional conferences on math, brain development, and attachment. She is also a strong proponent of parent education and has recently developed a podcast with Old Firehouse School about child development called "Fireside Chats on the Young Mind." In 2012 and 2022 she was published in NAEYC’s online magazine, Voices of Practitioners.
